Support government provides to SMMEs

JOHANNESBURG – Deputy Trade and Industry Minister Elizabeth Thabethe is expected to launch the department’s national annual Small Business Summit in Bloemfontein today.
The theme for this year’s summit is Propelling Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises Support as an Engine for Growth and Employment.
More than 500 entrepreneurs, small business financiers, academia, consultants and experts, as well as small business policy-makers from the three spheres of government from all provinces, will attend the three-day summit.
Thabethe will deliver a keynote address.
She will be accompanied by the Free State MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Mxolisi Dukwana and Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Thabo Manyoni.
Deputy Director-General of Empowerment and Enterprise Development Division at the DTI Sipho Zikode said in a statement the main purpose of the summit is to provide a platform for stakeholders involved in SMME development and growth to engage with government on SMME policy and strategy.
He said it is also about finding solutions for challenges facing small enterprises in South Africa.
“In line with its theme, this year’s summit will be focusing on various kinds of support that government provides to SMMEs.
