Business

English: Business Park Several small businesse...

Commercial, industrial, business, service, sales, support. This is a relatively broad business description and covers most business types. It has been used by members of SAPO over the past decade to help many thousands of entrepreneurs from all backgrounds and from all walks of life to start their own small businesses through the registration of appropriate entities such as close corpora

tions or private companies.
The South Africa Peoples Organisation exists to help business help the people. The people in turn are empowered to engage in business or work contracts which in turn should be designed to help other people. And so the productive cycle of business / job expansion goes on.
This cycle does not just happen. Both business and the people have to be prepared to make it happen and to sustain it to mutual advantage.
Business must realise, that, in most cases, with the right mix of inputs and resources, it can improve its financial position whilst simultaneously improving the headcount and lot of workers. It takes a measure of good planning, organising and implementation in order to achieve this. SAPO positions itself as a facilitator in this process.
Businesspersons must be assisted in replanning their businesses for improvements in profitability, market share, job creation, etc. Individuals are encouraged to enter business or start their own business, or to better prepare themselves for entry into the workforce if currently jobless.
“Business and Entrepreneurship” must be a compulsory subject in all primary and secondary schools.

Environmental and job creation

DEVELOPING countries such as South Africa can’t afford to focus on climate change in isolation of wider economic and social goals. An agenda that is restricted to protecting biodiversity, cutting carbon emissions and consuming fewer resources will simply worsen unemployment and poverty. To capture the  public imagination, ensure community  buy-in, and gain high level political support for the outcomes of COP17, environmental action must be combined with economic development and job creation.

The NDP makes bold suggestions to boost job creation and the entry of new workers to the labour market.

These include simplifying dismissal procedures for performance or misconduct and clarifying probation rules. It proposes removing some of the regulatory burden on small firms, which are expected to create 90% of the new jobs in the economy.

The document also suggests linking wage increases to productivity, which has not been the case due to trade unions’ clout.

Speech by Finance Minister at the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) Annual Convention Gala Dinner

3 Oct 2011

Introduction

Thank you for this opportunity to speak at the Annual South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) Gala Dinner. I would like to congratulate you on the topics chosen for the Convention; namely Leadership, Sustainability and Development. We are living through extremely challenging economic times, the post-recession recovery where leadership will be severely tested, with the sustainability of old models questioned and the focus on development sharpened.

Our morning coffee, as we open the papers, has been frequently disturbed by news of renewed market volatility and worsening financial and economic turmoil.
